Congressman Mike Turner Has No Plans To Participate In Any Local Town Hall Meetings

I just talked with someone in Mike Turner’s (OH-3) Dayton Office — Phone:(937) 225-2843 — and was told that at this time Congressman Turner has not been scheduled to participate in any Town Hall Meetings, and, according to the person I talked with, it appears the congressman will not participate in any Town Hall type meetings during this congressional recess.

I was told that the person most involved in scheduling events for Turner is a person named Marty Heide. I sent an e-mail to Ms Heide:

marty.heide@mail.house.gov

Marty Heide:

In an active democracy, citizens expect to have an opportunity to periodically attend a public meeting where their representative explains the votes the representative has made on behalf of the citizenry, explains his understanding of upcoming legislation and how he is inclined to vote, and welcomes dialogue with his constituents.

I live in Kettering and I’ve recently become involved in two organizations — DaytonOS and Grassroots Dayton — whose goals include the goal of vitalizing local democracy. I would like to see a big improvement in Kettering’s civic spirit and its active democracy and I think a great tradition to start would be that our local congressman every August participate in a series of town hall meetings. I think this idea of a regularly scheduled Town Hall meeting in Kettering would be supported overwhelmingly by Kettering residents. It would be great to get the ball rolling this year with one Town Hall Meeting — and if the congressman has an interest in participating, I will volunteer to work with the mayor and other city leaders to find an appropriate location and time.

Thank You.

In this case, “than to open ones mouth and remove all future votes.”

We need to see our congressmen and women at town hall meetings to help us decide who will stay in office and who will get voted out of office.

Mr. Turner, not meeting with your constituents is not acceptable, especially in Aug. ’09. I’m sure you are rethinking your schedule.

    Congressman Turner,

I am & was expecting you to make appearances in several town hall meetings in your district this August 09. There is to much at stake in our country right now for you to hide out. We the people want to know where you stand on many issues, especially the Cap & Trade & the so-called “Health care reform” My husband & I don’t agree with either of these issues. Neither is helpful to our country. If you have to do something with health care do it to the people who can;t afford it. Why should 200+ million people who are happy with their insurance be sacrificed for 10 million (NOT THE 43MILLION oBAMA IS CLAIMING SHOULD BE INCLUDED–NOT) WE KNOW A GOOD DEAL OF THEM ARE ILLEGAL. There is no reason why the majority of us should be thrown under the bus because Obama wants power/Socialism. We hate what he’s doing to our country. One big issue besides the two above & lack of employment brought on by the stimulus packages you people in the beltway voted for, is Obama is not trying to take care of one issue well, he keeps throwing so much into the fray that nothing is done well. IF A MAN TAKES 6 MONTHS TO CHOOSE HIS DOG I think all the issues brought before congress &senate SHOULD BE READ COVER TO COVER THEN TAKE MONTHS TO DISCUSS BEFORE IT IS EVEN BROUGHT TO A VOTE sINCERELY, cAROL & rUSS allamon

Why should he have town halls – no one will show up. He is not voting for this piece of crap health care bill.

  6. Josh says:

    Mr. Turner,
If I do not show up to work, I will get fired. Keep that in mind while scheduling your time away from D.C.. There are many topics to discuss and your absence will not be well received by your constituents. If you will not speak to the people you work for, we will elect a more attentive representative.

  7. Ed says:

Hi I agree with Josh. There are problems we must speak on,If you do not want to address those problems, we can get someone that cares more.It is the Reps. we voted in to do a good job,if i did that kind of job i would loose it . Thanks Ed P.S., Do you really get our e-mails?

  8. Antuan says:

    Rpresenative Turner,

You have been my represenative for about 4 years now, and i have yet to see you hold one town hall meeting in the greater Dayton area, either on the West side of Dayton, the Eastside of Dayton, nor have i seen you advertise a Townhall meeting in Kettering, why is that? Do you feel you owe nothing to the people you represent, or is it that your hiding out? The people you represent deserve more than what you are giving out and come next election this voter will not forget.

  9. Wilma says:

We need a town hall meeting….it is unacceptable to not have one!

  10. Robert R Nelson says:

Mr. Turner, do you think it is time that you talked to the people that you supposedly representing. I am not at all satisfied with the way that you are representing the people in our district. We never see or hear from you except when you are on TV, at the VA or at the base. You never stand for anything that goes against the republican party. You are a follower not a leader. WE NEED A LEADER!!!!

I wanted to attend a Town Hall meeting with Congressman Mike Turner when he was over the
northern part of Warren County (Franklin, City of) which is now in Chabot’s district when
I found out that Congressman Turner didn’t have Town Hall meetings per se. Instead he
had a staffer, Marty Heide, be available one day a month at the Franklin, Ohio City
Building during lunch hour. It was better than a Town Hall meeting because she could
be available for a one to one question/answer session and I got her full attention.
Anything she could not address at that time she got back to me with an answer or a comment later. I felt this was better than a Town Hall meeting because of the one to one
question/answer session. Every Congressman/woman should use this type of meeting rather
than an impersonal Town Hall meeting. For God and Country I am, Andy Kopp
