Ohio 7th District Congressman Dave Hobson will not seek re-election to a 10th term in the U.S. Congress.
The much expected retirement of Cong. Hobson has not been formally
announced even though State Senator Steve Austria (Hobson’s hand picked successor) is already preparing for a Congressional campaign and at least two Repuiblicans are lining up for Austria’s Ohio State Senate seat.
84th District Ohio House Representative Chris Widener and former Greene County Commissioner Reid Madden are both seeking the 10th Ohio State Senate seat being vacated by Austria due to term limits. State Representative Kevin DeWine was supposed to run for Austria’s seat, however, his move into the leadership of the Ohio GOP preclude him from doing so.
The entrenched Republican leadership (Husted and Harris) are supporting Widener.
Clark County Commissioner Roger Tackett is considering a run for the 10th Ohio State Senate seat as a democrat.

Rep. Austria is an empty suit. All he brings to the table is good hair. We are talking about the guy here who pushed the marijuana DUI bill, which essentially means if you get pulled over the cops can blood test you, and if THC is in your blood, you can get a DUI – even if you had smoke a week before legally at a coffeehouse in Amsterdam, it would seem. I haven’t heard of the law being enforced yet but the man is an idiot. The Republicans have a stranglehold on Greene county politics and the lack of competition is hurting us.
Hobson was excellent at bringing back the pork for WPAFB. He sat on the appropriations committee and used to insert big capital improvement projects for the base. His strategy was to insert projects that that either BRAC-proofing the place or projects that might help the Dayton Developement Coalitions hi-tek econ dev strategy.
Hobson was so sucessfull that they named a street after him on base, Hobson Way.
Reid Madden is a hoot, with that Doctor Who big hair (or he used to have that). I recall him passing me on I-675 in this big old 1970s car…I glanced over to see who was driving that thing, and lo and behold it was Reid Madden.
I was the 2006 Democratic candidate for U.S. Congress in the Ohio 7th District and will run again in 2008. I did very well in 2006 against Hobson,an 8 term incumbent, winning Franklin and Perry Counties and getting 40% of the vote across the district. In my web site http://www.ConnerForUS.com I present detailed plans for more than 30 issues. We can end the occupation of Iraq while creating an improvement in our position in the Middle East and the world, end the budget deficit with a surplus, have universal health care, and reduce the trade deficit and restore jobs. I also present a strong plan for ethics in Congress which I hope you will read.
I look forward to running against Steve Austria in 2008. I ask for the support of all Democrats, Independents and progressive Republicans.

Bill, good luck to you.
Take a note, there are many around the country who will support you even if they cannot vote for you.
I like the read on Church / State.
I play moderate poker online and that is a big issue for the church legislation groups.
Good Luck!

Bill: I’m sorry, but I’ll never vote for you because you are, quite frankly, economically illiterate. You addressed my sister’s high school class last year and explained that in order to increase revenue you would tax doctors because ‘they have plenty of money anyway.’ Bill Conner as Congressman for the Ohio 7th District would provide no benefit to Greene County – you wouldn’t be able to bring in any more pork than Steve Austria anyways, and you have no understanding of how price is dynamically affected by supply and demand, or how government intervention harms productivity, or why increased taxation causes capital flight. Have fun losing.
Hopefully there will be a third party choice, otherwise I won’t vote.
There is another choice in this race and that is Dave Woolever. His website is http://www.daveforohio.com/
