One in 10 Ohioans on Food Stamps – More Are Eligible

Do you think this is a trend we would like to continue? Ohio has made serious mistakes when it comes to putting the interests of Ohioans first. We have made policy choices that have not diversified the economy so that Ohioans can make Ohio work for them. Marching lock step to the tune of DC, NY or even Columbus has provided no value for those trying to make a living in this State.

The Columbus Dispatch : Food stamps double since ’01

Nearly one in 10 Ohioans now receives food stamps, the highest number in the state’s history.Caseloads have almost doubled just since 2001, with 1.1 million residents now collecting benefits, according to the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services.

Low wages, unemployment and the rising cost of groceries, gasoline and other necessities are to blame for financial hardships facing many Ohio families.

Real reason: all that advertising encouraging people to get on welfare has done what it was intended to do.

  • That was an impressive article, as it shows how inflations is pushing people over the edge. It also shows how people survive on a mix of assistance (food stamps) and charity (food banks).

Back when Cub was selling those bags of food as a donation for the poor I would always buy two with my regular groceries. I think DLM has a similar program?

This article has been posted on several web sites and in my opinion underscores the failure of globalism to address basic needs of Ohioans. The reliance on cheap products and cheap foods has lead to economic and health crisis in Ohio.

Well I guess I should not worry as the new paint and scoreboard at Welcome Stadium will inspire legions of couch potatoes to cast off the Homer Simpson tire, get a decent job and prosper in the world economy. Thank You Big Medicine.
