Quinnipiac Poll Shows 52% of Ohio Independent Voters Disapprove Of The Work Of Republican State Assembly

The Ohio Assembly is completely dominated by Republicans and so Republicans seeking re-election to the Assembly should be alerted by a recent Quinnipiac University poll that a lot of Ohioans think they’ve been doing a bad job.

The poll shows that, in total, 48% of voters disapprove of the work of the Republican Assembly. But the bad news for Republicans is that 52% of Independent voters disapprove. By far, the biggest block of voters in Ohio are Independents.  In OHD-41, for example, where I recently analyzed the data, fully 72% of voters are unaffiliated with either party.

And Republican legislators, I’m sure, are noting this fact: 29% of their base — Ohio voters registered as Republicans — say they disapprove of the work of the Assembly.

The poll shows that 52% of college education Ohioans disapprove of the work of the Ohio Assembly, and 54% of voters in the age group 50-64 disapprove.  Interestingly, 49% of voters with incomes in excess of $100,000 each year also disapprove.

On the other hand, many Democrats are puzzled that regardless of the success of the statewide referendum rejecting SB-5 — the legislation curtailing bargaining rights of public sector workers — the Quinnipiac poll shows that 54% of Ohioans approve copying Indiana and enacting “Right To Work” legislation.

Quinnipac has been releasing some really strange poll results lately. Strange enough to make you wonder if a rat isn’t running loose.

Considering that the 2010 vote was a vote against a bad economy, and instead the Rs came in with an ALEC based agenda including the unpopular SB5, and they haven’t done much with the economy but have gerrymandered the state to ensure they stay in office no matter what they do, maybe no rats are necessary. This is a poll of independents, who aren’t going to like this stuff.
