YES! Paper Ballots Available for Tuesday’s Election

The Ohio Supreme Court declined Friday to overrule Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner’s decision to re-quire counties with touch-screen voting machines to also make paper ballots available to voters who request them in next week’s election.

Justices issued a 7-0 opinion rejecting a request from Union County Commissioners for an order to prevent Secretary Brunner from implementing her directive to make optically scanned paper ballots available.

“To be entitled to the requested writ of prohibition, (commissioners) must establish that the secretary of state is about to exercise or has exercised judicial or quasi-judicial power,” the court said in an opinion at-tributed to

The Continued Demise of the Dollar

Ron Paul discusses the continued destruction of the American dollar on the Fox Business Channel.

Ron Paul knows his stuff. Yet, this is the guy who Conservatives reject on the grounds that he would jeopardize American security and continued global hegemony. The real irony is the Imperial agenda that these War-lovers advocate is what will ultimately spell the complete destruction of America. Hopefully, we can wake up before that day

Obama Builds Lead Over Clinton in Texas, But Dem Race Too Close To Call in Ohio

The political tidal wave that Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama has built with a long string of victories since February 5’s Super Tuesday elections is washing over Texas, but he still trails rival Hillary Clinton in Ohio, a new Reuters/C-SPAN/Houston Chronicle poll shows.Obama has built a six-point lead over Clinton in Texas, largely on the strength of support from what has come to be his base – younger voters and men. Evidence of his persuasive powers comes from the fact that most of those who have most recently decided for whom to support, while Clinton won more support from early

An Old Tour of Our First Floor!

Way back in January 2002 I took a movie tour of the first floor of the “Crack House” and posted it to our web page at the time. Since then, for some reason, I took the links out of the web page and the files were removed from the computer because they took up too much space. It turns out that I left them loaded on my FTP space at AOL under an account that I never use and just recently (like yesterday) downloaded the files to the PC that we bought in 2006 that has oodles more drive space and have linked to from here for your viewing pleasure!

Living Room

Dining Room

Kitchen

I took a movie tour through the first floor on Thursday to show you how the rooms currently look so you can see the transformation that has been my nightmare. You will have to wait to view those though because we still have dial-up and the files are going to take forever to upload to my FTP space on AOL because they are quite large!

So, to make you happy while you wait I have posted this joke that was sent to me by a friend who generally tells really bad jokes. Maybe it will make some people think before they vote in future.

While walking down the street one day a US senator is tragically hit by a truck and
dies.

His soul arrives in heaven and is met by St. Peter at the entrance.

“Welcome to heaven,” says St. Peter. “Before you settle in, it seems there is a problem. We seldom see a high official around these parts, you see, so
we’re not sure what to do with you.”

“No problem, just let me in,” says the man.

“Well, I’d like to, but I have orders from higher up. What we’ll do is have you spend one day in hell and one in heaven. Then you can choose where to spend eternity.”

“Really, I’ve made up my mind. I want to be in heaven,” says the senator.

“I’m sorry, but we have our rules.”

And with that, St. Peter escorts him to the elevator and he goes down, down, down to hell. The doors open and he finds himself in the middle of a green golf course. In the distance is a clubhouse and standing in front of it are all his friends and other politicians who had worked with him.

Everyone is very happy and in evening dress. They run to greet him, shake his hand, and reminisce about the good times they had while getting rich at the expense of the people.

They play a friendly game of golf and then dine on lobster, caviar and champagne.

Also present is the devil, who really is a very friendly guy who as a good time dancing and telling jokes. They are having such a good time that before he realizes it, it is time to go.

Everyone gives him a hearty farewell and waves while the elevator rises…

The elevator goes up, up, up and the door reopens on heaven where St. Peter is waiting for him.

“Now it’s time to visit heaven.”

So, 24 hours pass with the senator joining a group of contented souls moving from cloud to cloud, playing the harp and singing. They have a good time and, before he realizes it, the 24 hours have gone by and St. Peter returns.

“Well, then, you’ve spent a day in hell and another in heaven. Now choose your eternity.”

The senator reflects for a minute, then he answers: “Well, I would never have said it before, I mean heaven has been delightful, but I think I would be better off in hell.”

So St. Peter escorts him to the elevator and he goes down, down, down to hell.

Now the doors of the elevator open and he’s in the middle of a barren land covered with waste and garbage.

He sees all his friends, dressed in rags, picking up the trash and putting it in black bags as more trash falls from above.

The devil comes over to him and puts his arm around his shoulder.

“I don’t understand,” stammers the senator. “Yesterday I was here and there was a golf course and clubhouse, and we ate lobster and caviar, drank champagne, and danced and had a great time. Now there’s just a wasteland full of garbage and my friends look miserable. What happened?”

The devil looks at him, smiles and says, “Yesterday we were campaigning…

Today you voted.”

DDN Gives Harris Two New Strong Endorsements; Democratic Insiders Attend Winburn’s Fund Raiser

Democratic Chair Mark Owens must be gritting his teeth. Today’s Dayton Daily News, on its editorial page, gives Victor Harris — the candidate not endorsed by the Montgomery County Democrats — two new and very strong newspaper endorsements. These endorsements are in addition to the newspaper’s strong Feb 8 endorsement of Harris. The editorial headline states, “Few Candidates Do the Basics Before Running, Victor Harris is Notable Exception”

These new endorsements for Harris come in the wake of a big fund raiser for Victor’s opponent, Roland Winburn, attended by many local Democratic Party insiders. Wednesday,

Brinkman: Anti-Tax Gunslinger

I almost forgot about this. Last month, Tom Brinkman was named the “Pistol of the Month” by the Buckeye Institute, for his efforts to cut taxes, eliminate wasteful spending, and fight for responsible and open government in

Tom Brinkman, Ohio’s Ron Paul

In a further display of how devoid our Conservative friends are of any real intellectual integrity and principle, the Weapons of Mass Discussion blog take some pot shots at one of the most principled members of the Ohio State House of Representatives, Tom Brinkman. There’s an interesting exchange in the comment section, which I attempted to contribute to, but WMD is really more about creating an echo chamber for the masterbatory thoughts of the pro-war crowd, than creating a forum for real discussion.

(Man, I love to hear Conservatives whine about how Republicans have no principles. I’m going to buy them all a compact mirror for Xmas.)

In any case, one of the contributors to that discussion wrote an excellent article on one of the virtues of Tom Brinkman’s record as a legislator…specifically, that he’s not qualified for Congress because he’s just not corrupt enough!

I know Tom Brinkman. I’ve met him a couple of times, and a couple people I know used to work for him at his printing company. This is a good man whom I’ve always described as “Ohio’s Ron Paul”. He takes his job as a legislator seriously, and he is guided by his principles. Like Ron Paul, this does not make him too popular with the lobbyists.

I wish Tom Brinkman well in the upcoming primary election. If I lived in his district, I’d vote for

If You Do Not Understand The Implications – Then Do the World a Favor – Die

I know that the people of Dayton will not take the time to read this post as the business of life is very time consuming and keeping up with Barak or Brittney is paramount, but if we do not stop the current trajectory, then the future is bleaker than you think.

The Oil Drum: Europe | Olduvai revisited 2008
Getting politicians, policy makers, leading academics and decision makers to grasp these issues has to be a major priority. The fact that this work is being conducted in the twilight world of The Oil Drum is really astounding. Although I am
