Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio)
Age: 54
Hometown: Mansfield, Ohio
Political party: Democrat
Dating status: Married to wife, Connie Schultz
Ohio’s Democratic senator may not be as sharply dressed as his home-state colleague, House GOP leader John Boehner, or as smoothly polished as another Midwestern freshman, Barack Obama of Illinois. But Sherrod Brown’s combination of rumpled cool and passionate progressivism makes him the unsung beauty of the upper chamber.
For proof of Brown’s stealthy sex appeal, look no further than the new campaign memoir of his wife, Cleveland Plain Dealer columnist Connie Schultz. Her tome, …And His Lovely Wife, chronicles Brown’s rise from seven-term House member

Center for American Progress military expert Lawrence Korb testified before the House Armed Services Committee this morning, challenging escalation proponents to have the courage of their convictions and call for a draft if they would like the surge to continue indefinitely. One right-wing Ohio Congressman, Michael Turner, desperately tried to smear Korb during his question and answer period. Turner started off his smear attacks against Korb by questioning his credentials to speak before the panel:
TURNER: I was looking at your bio…that incorrectly I believe referred to you as Doctor Korb. And you do not have a PhD.
KORB: I do.
TURNER: You do

The DDN recently reported the Dayton Public Schools, Greater Dayton RTA, City of Dayton and Montgomery County reached a deal to continue providing RTA bus service for Dayton public and charter school high school students.
The deal includes a subsidy from both the City of Dayton and Montgomery County of $350,000 per year.
Taxpayers should wonder about this arrangement. Providing direct subsidies to DPS from other taxpayer funds establishes a potentially dangerous precedent.
What criteria will Montgomery County and GDRTA use to consider other requests for subsidies from other communities?
Why hasn’t DPS moved to privately contracted bus service for all students like the Cincinnati

The Miami Valley Regional Planning Commission has begun a four-year process to create a land-use framework to show where development in the greater Dayton area should occur and where it should be discouraged.
Martin Kim, the commission’s planning director, hopes that at the end of four years, government leaders, business interests and the public will reach consensus on which prime farmland, parks, wetlands and other parcels should be preserved. But Kim acknowledges that the planning commission has no enforcement powers and won’t be able to get local jurisdictions to follow
